Postcard of the wedding cake made by Huntley & Palmers for HRH Princess Elizabeth [later Queen Elizabeth II] and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten
Reference: D/EX1748/1/25/2
The cake in this photograph was made from a special old recipe that had been used by Huntley & Palmers for the production of their wedding cakes over a number of years. The illustrated plaques and decorations, that were hand-painted or reproduced in sugar, illustrated the widespread activities and interests of the Royal couple. HM Queen Elizabeth II gave permission for a replica of the cake to be exhibited with the proceeds going to the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust and the Women’s Royal Naval Benevolent Trust.
