Crowdfunding

We have a large collection of around 10,000 aerial photographs which need a bit more support to protect them for the future. Namely, they need protective sleeves.

With so many it’s difficult for us to get enough sleeves.

So what are they?

Collection of aerial photographs taken of Berkshire in 1964, 1969, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991 and 1996. Not all areas of Berkshire are covered in every year and many years are missing photographs. There is a large amount of overlap between photographs. All photographs are approximately 24cm2, and scale approximately 6″ to the mile. Also includes 8 index maps with 1 each corresponding to each year that the surveys were taken. Each index map has a dot showing the approximate centre of each photograph with a photograph number.

Why sleeve them?

This reduces the impact of handling. Plus did you know that oils in hands are really bad for photos?  Not to mention dirty hands! We currently provide users with single use nitrile gloves to handle them and protect them. If they were sleeved, we would not need to provide the gloves any more which would be more sustainable for the future.
